Prof. MP Thakur is currently working as a Director, Extension Services, IG Agricultural University, Raipur, Chhattisgarh. During my educational & professional career, awarded ICAR Junior & Senior Research Fellowships, Merit Scholarships, Certificate of Honours at UG and PG degrees. Nominated as Zonal President, Central Zone of the Indian Phytopathological Society, New Delhi in2013, nominated by DG, ICAR as MEMBER for Research Advisory Committee of DMR, Solan for three years from 2013-2016, nominated as Zonal Councilor, West Zone (Madhya Pradesh, C.G. Rajasthan, Gujarat) of ISMPP, Udaipur in 2001. Visited China, Mexico, Thailand, U.K., Nepal for educational purposes. Awarded Fellowship for Training to the In-Service Young Scientist by MPCST, Bhopal in 1992, awarded Best Worker by IGAU, Raipur in 2001, awarded Best Poster Paper in 2005,2008, "Krishi Shree" Award for outstanding contribution by Minister of Education, Govt. of Chhattisgarh in 2007.Have been the FELLOW of Indian Society of Mycology and Plant Pathology, Udaipur since 2010 and Indian Society of Pulses Research and Development, Kanpur since 1995. Working as "Editor" of Mushroom Research, since 2006 published by MSI, Solan (H.P.), as "Editor in Chief" of Journal of Agricultural Issues

Dr. Tarun Thakur

Tarun Thakur is currently Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Science, Indira Gandhi

National Tribal University, Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh, India. He obtained his M.Sc. (Agroforestry) and Ph.D. in Forestry (Specialization in Remote Sensing & GIS from Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur, Chhattisgarh), Specific area of interests includes Remote Sensing & GIS, Natural Resource Management and Tribal Development.

He was awarded the "Young Scientist Award" in 2006 by the Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology, Raipur (India), and selected as the "Young Scientist" by TWAS in Egypt in 2012. He received the "Best Paper Award" in the National Conference on Awareness Creation on Mushroom diversity and conservation being sponsored by the National Biodiversity Authority, the Government of India, in 2005, and the "Best Articles Award" in 2005 in the field of Agroforestry/ Forestry by Krishak Shrankhla monthly National Agriculture magazine.

He is a member of 6 international/National professional bodies and participated International symposium in Japan, Egypt and Sri Lanka. He has published 20 papers in International/ National reputed Journals and presented 18 papers in International/ National Conferences and gave 8 invited lectures up to November 2014. His biography has been published in TWAS/BVA.NXT 2012 "Scientific Innovation in the Developing World: From Theory to Practice" and listed in the TOP 100 Scientists.

Mushroom cultivation activities can play an important role in supporting the local economy by contributing to subsistence food security, nutrition, and medicine; generating additional employment and income through local, regional and national trade; and offering opportunities for processing enterprises. Mushroom cultivation is a cash crop. The harvested fruiting bodies can be sold in local markets for additional family income or exported for an important source of foreign exchange that will definitely improve the economic standards of the people.

The present book is an effort to pool the information of cultivation, nutritive values, environmental factorsaffecting mushroom production, Mushroom in health and medicine and utilization of commonly grown mushroom.
